IPL Photofacial
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy, aka Photofacial, is a non-invasive way to improve the color and texture of your skin. It can undo some of the visible and non-visible damage caused by sun exposure (photoaging). Without damaging the skin, light penetrates the skin and is absorbed by vessels or pigmentation.. Heat causes damage to the vessel or pigmented lesion causing the body to begin it’s natural healing process.

If your treatment goal is to address pigment you may be numbed prior to treatment. Numbing allows you to sit comfortably during treatment. As numbing wears off you may feel warm like a sunburn for the next few hours. During treatment you will experience heat on the treated area and will have temporary redness that will subside in 24 hours. Over the next few days you’ll notice pigment spots come to the surface of the skin and darken. Spots will temporarily become more noticeable during this phase. Eventually the spots will rise and flake off. While they are raised and healing it is important not to pick as it will lead to permanent scarring. Depending on severity of sun damage, redness etc, treatment results may vary. We may recommend a series of treatments for maximum results.

I had my very first IPL to treat sun spots at “Ellis & Co.”. Ashley was the nurse doing my IPL and she had a very calm and relaxing nature, which was nice, as this was my first treatment and I was unsure of what to expect. She took the time to answer my questions and explained what was going to happen and how it would feel. Prior to treatment being started my face was washed and I put on metal glasses to protect my eyes. Ashley was very knowledgeable about the equipment she was using and made sure I was comfortable throughout the procedure. She thoroughly explained aftercare instructions and I felt confident in what to do and expect. The IPL gave me great results, pulling a lot of pigment out!
